Co-Counselling

DIY Therapy — But Not Alone

Ever wish your inner critic could become something softer, wiser—even helpful?

Ever wanted to be truly listened to—and to listen in a way that’s healing for you both?

Or to have emotionally attuned, empowering conversations that don’t cost £70 a pop?

Welcome to Co-Counselling: a quietly radical tool for emotional resilience you may not have heard of—yet.

Co-Counselling (or CoCo) is structured peer support. It’s a deeply human, peer-to-peer practice for building emotional resilience, healing, and authentic connection.

It’s not therapy.
It’s not just talking.
It’s a practice—a toolkit—for showing up more fully, both with yourself and others.

Here’s how it works: two people take turns using a powerful method they’ve both learned. One person shares, the other listens—with warmth, care, and confidentiality. There’s no judgment, no advice. Both people understand their roles, the boundaries of the space, and the therapeutic tools they can use. Then they switch so that they have equal time in each role. The person sharing (the client) is always in charge of their own process.

It’s grounded in 70+ years of lived practice, and draws on a range of therapeutic approaches from person-centred and somatic to psychodynamic and Gestalt.

“Co-counselling is like going to the gym for your emotional body. You get stronger, more flexible, and less likely to crumple under stress.”

Think of it as emotional literacy school meets self-awareness gym.

Co-counselling gives you tools you can use for life. You’ll learn how to:

  • Express and process emotions—without bottling

  • Listen deeply—without fixing, rescuing, or overanalyzing

  • Interrupt unhelpful patterns—with compassion

  • Ask for what you need emotionally—and actually receive it

  • Build real relationships—based on structure, clarity, and mutual respect

It’s self-led. It’s liberating. It works.

No. While co-counselling can be profoundly therapeutic, it’s not therapy.

Instead of being guided by a therapist, you’ll:

  • Have sessions in pairs or small groups

  • Take full ownership of your emotional process

  • Learn tools you can use anytime, anywhere

  • Practice within a respectful, peer-led structure

If you’re in crisis or need a therapist-led process, this isn’t the right fit—and we’re happy to help point you toward other resources.

Co-counselling is for people who want tools, not quick fixes. It might be a great fit if:

  • You’re curious about your inner world

  • You’ve tried therapy and want something more flexible—or more affordable

  • You’re the one who often “holds it all together” for others

  • You value both personal healing and collective wellbeing

  • You’re considering becoming a therapist or already in training

No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to show up, learn and gently challenge yourself.
